Setram

Cover of the brand guidelines for the 62nd anniversary of independence

Sixty-two years, carried on the rails

Setram runs Algeria's tramways. For the 62nd anniversary of independence on 5 July 2024, it wanted its trams to do more than run on time. They had to carry the national celebration through the streets and place Setram inside Algeria's story of progress. We designed the event identity, wrote its guidelines and turned the tram itself into a moving tribute.

The challenge

One identity had to speak to every passenger in Arabic, Tamazight and French. It had to honour 1962 without feeling like an archive. And it had to survive a moving vehicle: doors, windows, and a frieze read at walking pace.

The solution

A mark that fuses the tramway with the Maqam Echahid. A palette drawn from the national colours. A trilingual type system for Arabic, Tifinagh and Latin. Archival photographs of 1962, the Hayek as a tribute to the women of the resistance, and slogans of glory and progress, composed panel by panel around doors and windows.

The wrap went through three rounds: two proposals built on the guidelines, then the version Setram approved, reworked to their requests.
